PAINTS USED
Q: What type of paint do you use? Is it toxic? Does it smell?
How long does it take to dry?
A: I use artist's acrylics which
are water based, non-toxic, dry immediately, and have virtually
no odor. By the time I clean up my equipment, the paint is completely
dry.
Q: Will I be able to wash the wall? Will the paint come off
when I need to wash the wall? Do you put a coating over the painting
when finished?
A: I don't put any type of coating over the painting.
The acrylic paint is water resistant, and permanent when
dry. It can be gently washed. (I haven't had a single client
call me with any problem associated with washing the painted
wall.)
Q: If we need to paint over the painting in the future, how
is this done?
A: The painted surface should be lightly block
sanded because there may be slight variations in the thickness
of paint. The colorful surface needs to be primed with a good
quality primer. Then painting your walls should proceed as normal.
PREP WORK
Q: What preparations must be done to the walls before I come
and paint?
A: In most rooms I do not paint every square inch
of wall. The basic wall paint should be in good condition so
as not to detract from the decorated surface. The basic wall
color shows through the decorative painting.
Q: What type of wall paint should be used?
A:
Select an eggshell, satin, or low luster water based paint. The
wall paint needs to be a water based paint (not oil) so my decorative
acrylics are compatible. If repainting the room, although
my paints are compatible with a water based flat or high
gloss, I would suggest selecting something in between. (The
shine of a high gloss presents a more garish look as well as
adds an extra step. The flat paint will be more prone to fingerprints,
and smudges and scuffs, detracting sooner from the overall
painted experience.)
Q: Do you do the prep work? Do you roller paint?
A: I do not do prep work or roller paint.
ESTIMATES
Q: How do I get an estimate? What do you charge?
A: I am very reasonably priced. I cannot put in writing (here)
an actual price since every job is different, and requires
more or less time, and, more or less travel. I base the price
on the scope of work. Bigger job, bigger price. Smaller job,
smaller price. The more accurately I know what I am painting
for you, the more accurate price I can give.
Q: How long does your average job take?
A: Most jobs I paint take one or two days.
Murals covering every square inch of wall and ceiling take closer to a week depending on the intricacy of the style, design and room size.
Q: Do you have a minimum charge?
A: If the job is extremely small, we can discuss details over
the phone. I will drive out with my supplies, and if all
details are agreed upon, I will proceed painting that day.
AVAILABILITY
Q: How far in advance do I need to book you?
A: My schedule is subject to change daily. Sometimes I am available
immediately. Sometimes I am booked for several months
straight. Sometimes I am booked solid, and someone postpones,
creating an opening in my schedule.
CONTACT THE ARTIST
Q: How do I contact you?
A: by email colette@wallmurals.com (place
in subject: "wall mural info")
(Phone when you are more seriously considering my painting
service. Phone: (818) 994-1441)
MY SPECIALTY
Q: What style or type of painting do you do?
A: I specialize in Nurseries, Kid's Rooms, and creating
decorative borders. I am fabulous at painting designs to compliment
or match bedding, fabrics, towels, shower curtains, china, etcetera.
Q: Do you paint wall treatments?
A: I do fabulous brush-blended wall treatments, (looks
like rag rolling), and beautiful blended skies on ceilings. Swatches
of wallpaper have been the inspiration for some amazing color
combinations, as well as a great way to communicate style
preferences.
Q: Do you paint on doors or closets? Do you paint furniture?
A: I can paint on doors or closets or furniture if they
have a water based, painted, surface. I do not strip furniture
or prepare unfinished wood. I will paint on a primed surface,
or add any decorative painting to properly prepared pieces.
(If unsure if my paint is compatible with the surface in question,
I will need to pass on the job or, at additional cost, buy
special supplies for your project.)
APPOINTMENT INFO and PAINTING LOCATIONS
Q: When should I make an appointment?
A: We will have a very productive appointment if you have
selected a basic theme (like jungle, ocean, sports, floral,
etc.), or you have picked out accessories (like bedding, curtains,
and furniture). I am great at brainstorming once you know the
basic direction you would like the room to develop. Sometimes
cards, stickers, magazines or fabrics help inspire a theme. If
something strikes your eye, save it. It will help me get a sense
of what painting style you like best.
Q: How do I make an appointment to discuss my ideas with you?
A: Call me at (818) 994-1441
Q: How far will you travel to paint, or meet for an appointment?
A: I am based in Los Angeles, California. I will paint in any location that is to our mutual benefit. I will travel approximately 30 miles in any direction
for a consultation. If you live farther, we can discuss your
ideas, via mail or email, or over the phone. I will drive to
your location when I have other reasons to be in your area,
or if there is a great possibility you would like me to commence
painting the same day I drive out.
Q: Will you travel to other states?
A: Yes. I have been flown out to Arizona several times to paint for a week, the Bay area, and to Philadelphia.
I would love to paint more often in the Philadelphia area because I have family there. |
